Mission

Myanmar Burma Relief Organization (MBRO) was set up by Burmese expatriates to collect and distribute aid to the victims and survivors of Cyclone Nargis. Although the immediate objective is to get aid and relief to the victims and survivors of the cyclone, our vision is to create a long-term aid/relief organization for all people in need in Myanmar.

The worst storm to hit Asia since 1999, Cyclone Nargis hit the Myanmar coast on the night of Friday, May 2, 2008, causing unprecedented death and destruction across the southern areas of the country. The number of deaths, injuries, missing and displaced persons has risen rapidly since Nargis struck, and thousands of survivors now face hunger, lack of shelter and basic needs, illness and disease, as well as mental, economic and social devastation. The aftermath of the storm is as great a threat as the storm itself.

Donations for the cyclone victims are urgently needed. MBRO is accepting monetary donations and we are also seeking individuals, groups, and organizations to join the effort. All donations will be sent to local and ground groups and organizations in Burma. These entities in turn will secure and distribute aid as needed.

Our aid distribution model is different from that of other organizations. It consists of working with organizations and groups currently operating in Burma and using these channels to deliver assistance directly to the victims. Anyone interested in learning about our organization and distribution model is encouraged to contact us. We sincerely appreciate your donation and participation.

MBRO is affiliated with Friends of Burma, a charitable, tax-exempt organization under 501(c)(3)of the Internal Revenue Code located in Fort Wayne, Indiana. All of your donations are tax deductible.

Friends Of Burma (FOB) is licensed by the US Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC) to send funds to Myanmar, facilitating MBRO's transfer of funds to Myanmar.
